We are cooking again at Columbus House!
On Thursday March 28th, we stepped back into the Columbus House kitchen to prepare dinner to feed up to 100 people! Spring Glen Church has a long history of cooking and serving meals at Columbus House for over 45 years!
Thank you to our food preparers, shoppers and servers: Andrew Maley, Mary Mannion, Jennifer Brosious, Laine Harris, Victoria Morrel, and Rhonda Voos.
Columbus House is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been providing solutions to homelessness since 1982. Throughout the years, Columbus House has expanded its mission and programs to include not only emergency shelter but a continuum of housing and services designed to help people who are homeless move toward independence.
Our dinner menu: Meatballs in Gravy, with homemade mashed potatoes, peas, salad, bread and Girl Scout cookies (provided by a generous SGC member!). Our efforts were much appreciated by the Columbus House residents. Thanks to the Columbus House staff: Sheree DiMario, Donna & Reggie who helped us in the kitchen. One change is that now all the food has to be cooked in the Columbus House kitchen. It was quite busy coordinating all the parts of the meal to be ready at 5:00pm sharp. Thanks to our experienced chef, Victoria Morrell, it all came together on time!
We are planning to prepare a meal every other month on the 4th Thursday. These are the dates for the rest of 2024: May 23, July 25, September 26, and November 21(the week before Thanksgiving Day). In the past we have helped to serve the Thanksgiving meal and it might be possible to do this if there is enough interest.
Thank you to everyone who has generously donated to the Columbus House fund as it enables us to purchase the food for these meals. If you would like to be involved, contact Victoria Morrell or Rhonda Voos or email Karis@SpringGlenChurch.org for their contact info.
